10 secrets of perfect interior design
Craftsmanship comes with experience, so we have compiled a selection of design secrets that will help you bring the process of finishing your apartment to perfection.
1. Consider unforeseen expenses
Even if you are used to planning your expenses carefully and try not to deviate from this principle during the renovation process, practice shows that you still have to buy something at the last minute. It is absolutely impossible to foresee everything. What if, at the final stage of work, it turns out that a special lamp is needed on the bedside table?
2. Use decorative techniques
Cover vents and heaters with decorative panels. If you are decorating an apartment in the loft style, this advice may not seem relevant, but in all other cases, sloppy pipes and grilles will distract the eye from the interior features.
3. Add stucco elements
Volumetric stucco molding or elegant molding can change the interior beyond recognition. The beauty of the reception is that it will decorate both a luxurious classic interior and a laconic one-room apartment.
4. Don’t be afraid of black
This statement looks strange only at first glance. In fact, black brings contrast and depth to the interior, regardless of the style of the apartment. A painted canvas in dark colors, furniture details, a table lamp – even such trifles will benefit the overall color scheme.
5. Follow the triangle principle
To make the composition of accessories look solid, arrange and hang them, focusing on the shape of the triangle: the taller objects should be in the center, and those that are lower – at the edges.
6. Order 10% more tiles than you need
If the material cracks during the delivery process or it turns out that there is a small defect in color in the batch, you will not have to urgently buy the missing tiles.
7. Look for alternatives
Contrary to the stereotype, a bench instead of a sofa is not a whim for decorating a huge room, but an opportunity to organize a place to relax in a narrow space. It is easy to fit it into the corner of the dining area, and so it will be even more spacious at the table than if there were chairs in place of the banquet.
8. A vertical mirror will visually raise the ceiling
Avoid the temptation to hang a horizontal mirror in the living room: although this is a convenient way to solve the issue of wall decor, a vertical mirror will still cope with a more important task for a small room – it will visually increase the height of the walls.
9. Lay books horizontally
A huge bookcase has already taken its place, but you haven’t got a full-fledged library yet? Use a simple design technique: put books horizontally on empty shelves, and fill in the remaining gaps with small accessories.
10. Group decor asymmetrically
Placing four flower pots two by two on adjacent shelves is just boring. If you want to expressively beat the decor, use an odd number of objects – this way you will be able to destroy rigid symmetry.
